Iris 1.8 and Sodium 0.6 are now in beta for Minecraft 1.21!
This is a major release for everyone; special thanks to douira and the rest of the team at CaffeineMC, as well as all the testers.
First, the (admittedly minor) changes in Iris 1.8 standalone:
- (Better) support for tags in shader packs! This allows shader packs to more easily support modded blocks should they wish.
- Support for Distant Horizons 2.2. This will officially release this weekend; any older versions will not work.
- Fixed support for some packs that did not work correctly on Iris 1.7.x. (Some packs such as KappaPT are currently broken for an unknown reason; this is being investigated.)
Now, for the big part.
The changes in Sodium 0.6:
- Translucency sorting!
- No more weird bugs with putting stained glass in front of water or water through itself; it will all be handled by an advanced algorithm.
- Support for the Fabric Rendering API (FRAPI)!
- This will allow mods like Continuity, LambdaBetterGrass and Distant Horizons to work without Indium.
- Both Iris and Sodium now support NeoForge.
- Yes, that's correct; You will be able to use the official releases of both Iris and Sodium on your favorite NeoForge packs, such as All the Mods 10.
This is a major release, bringing support for tessellation shaders, Distant Horizons, and many more features, alongside a 1.20.5 styled redesign.
